10mins with Alex from OFF THE RECORD

As we move closer to the world premiere season of OFF THE RECORD at Carriageworks we’d like to introduce you to all the members our fabulous cast. Meet Alex Jones: actor, disability advocate and cinnamon bun enthusiast…

Q. How did you get into performing?
When I was 4 years old, I was bitten by the performing bug whilst on stage signing to a religious song called ‘Jesus Loves Me’ in a Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan.

Q. Who inspires you and why?
My Dad. Patience. He’s a remarkable man and wished I had more time before he left us.

Q. What would you do to make a difference in the world?
Big question. There’s a lot I would do… but first, I’d get everyone to learn a bit of sign language and understand Deaf people.

Q. Favourite holiday destination?
Where else but Byron Bay?

Q. What do you do to relax?
Wine in hand, reviewing a recipe I found on the net or in the papers and cooking.

Q. What are you currently reading?
Resurrection Bay by Emma Viskic.

Q. What are you currently listening to (or watching)?
Jessica Jones.

Q. When friends come to town, what attraction would you take them to?
Gordon’s Bay.

Q. What’s your favourite pastime?
Dancing under the mirror ball at any time!

Q. Happiness is?
Smelling fresh cinnamon rolls.

Q. What’s your most memorable performance to date?
Messiah, sorry…I had to.

Q. Why do you think a show like Off The Record is important?
Shaking the discomfort out of people’s skin and learning how to really understand people with disability.

Ian McKellan.

Q. Share something ‘off-the-record’ about yourself…
I’m doing this at 1.11AM.
